A Foggy, Sunny Day

There are all sorts of weather days here at the coast. One of my favorites is when the sun is shining brightly and there is fog everywhere you look. It is so other-worldly. I love it.

 

 Today was one of those days. The fog makes the air moist and balmy. Kind of tropical. One of my son's calls it Hawaii weather.

Last night the waves were crashing so loudly that we could hardly sleep! We just had to go to the beach today, to see what it looked like.

 

The fog was thick over the Ocean. I could barely see the waves crashing, when looking through the camera lens. But I took the photos anyway to see what they'd turn out like. The above is an example. Those are waves breaking in the photo...not clouds.

 

Looking down the beach to the West, this is how the sun looked through the fog.  As we were walking up the beach to the parking lot when it was time to head homeward, I saw my friend, the Great Blue Heron again.

 

And these  surfer stickers on the back side of a beach sign...

 

We were in the truck, ready to drive away and I asked my husband to wait a minute while I ran back for just one more photo...of the Sun.   He agreed.

Modern Day Gypsies

I was just coming out of the little grocery store down in the village when I spotted this purple bus. A young couple and their little boy, had just boarded the bus with bags full of groceries and other supplies they'd purchased at the village store.

A few days later, I saw this creative specimen in a parking lot near our house. A lone woman was hauling this home behind her truck. I thought how courageous she is to be doing that on her own!

Fruit Of Fungi

 

 It's Mushroom time again here at the coast. The earth is damp and the air cooler and moist. Perfect conditions for dozens of varieties of Mushrooms.

 

The Mushroom in these two photos is called, Fly Mushroom (Amanita Muscaria). It is not edible but does have intoxicating properties. I just like to take pics of them and leave them in Nature for the Banana Slugs to dine on. They grow in the woods and at the edge of them, along with pine, spruce and birch trees.

 

It seems as though the mushrooms follow some sort of color schedule. Right now the red, white and tan ones are showing up. And as the season goes on, other colored ones will follow.

 

Here we have what I believe is a Rosy Russula (RussulaRosacea). It is not recommended to eat as it has a very peppery taste that is a definite deterrent.

And while the mushrooms begin to pop up, these lovely purple flowers are blooming on shrubs all over the area. I don't know what they are called, but they sure are pretty to see. Especially at this time of year.

A Mixed Herd

We took a drive yesterday down Dow's Prairie Road. We often see sheep in this pasture but to our surprise! yesterday, we saw Rams, Sheep, Cows and an Alpaca! Such a bonus for photo taking, and fun talking to the animals. : )

 

 

 

 

There is a fabric store in town that sells local Alpaca yarns. It is very soft and beautiful. The animals were all real friendly and followed me along the fence as I moved along taking photos. My son, Jonathan, wants to go back there again tomorrow! He really enjoys animals. So, soon I'll get to go for another photo day at the farm. : )

Adjacent to the pasture is this huge Blueberry field. Now I know where our locally grown Blueberries come from in the summer time. Yum!

 

I love the Autumn red of the leaves.

PINK LADY

 

Here are a few more photos of that pink Victorian mansion I promised a few posts ago. If you recall, I'd emailed a local craftsman, asking him for info on the story of the pink mansion. Well, he didn't respond so for now it remains a mystery.

  

The adornment on this mansion is amazing. The different shingle styles and shapes are very creative as seen on the upper part of this photo. Click on the photos for a closer view.

Such a beauty. Can you just imagine living in her back in the day?

Giving Credit

There are a couple of blogs I would like to sound off about if you don't mind. One is my daughter's in which she recently did a great post on the pharmaceutical companies, "war" on cancer. It is titled, "When Pink Stinks". 

A very worthy read. You can check it out here. Another blog which deserves some recognition is that of my 8 year old Grandson's, Marcel . His is a brand new blog so be generous and do please leave him a comment.  

 

Since my blog is not only about sprouting stories, but also a gardening blog, I feel the need to include some pics of flowers. My garden is pretty much ended for the season with the exception of a few blooming plants which I have moved into the covered porch for protection from the downpours and cooler nights.

 

The Holly Tree is bearing fruit.

Well, it's starting to pour again and often when that happens here at the coast, the power goes out. So I'm going to say so long for now and get off my computer. I hate it when the power going out, shuts my pc off for me.
