Our wildlife gathering has increased it's numbers recently. One morning I looked out on the back deck to find this..
Isn't he cute!? I just love him. Here's a close-up of him below....
This little guy came faithfully to our slider door for about two weeks, when one day, a second little one showed up and chased this guy out! Here's the second one....
This little "chipper" has a little more orangey color than the first one. He is also plumper. Probably since he chases off all the other ones and has the bounty all to himself. ; ) Here he's feasting on lobelia seeds.
Here he's nibbling on a piece of a dried mushroom he found in one of my planter boxes.
As the days went by, the first little chipmunk was getting hungry I guess, cuz one day I opened the slider door and to my surprise, a striped little furry ball streaked past my feet into the house and ran all over the place! Was I surprised! I quickly got some almonds out of the bag nearby and began placing them on the throw rug by the slider door and talking to the little frightened chipmunk and calling him to the door. He finally came over to the almonds, filled his pouches and RAN out the slider door. Since then, he has been the one to come back each day for food and handouts. They like sunflower seeds but they LOVE almonds. They fill their cheek pouches and run off somewhere to hide the seeds. Presumably for winter. I am now finding little diggings in my potted plants and planter boxes on the deck. ; )
There is more to this story but I'll save it for another post.
Meanwhile, have a chipper week end!

Hi Marrissa!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! I really appreciate it.
Those little critters are adorable, aren't they? I love having them visit us. Our rainy season is soon to begin here and I wonder if they will still come by then. I hope so, since they've buried tons of nuts and seeds in all my planters. ;) Maybe we'll have tons of sunflowers in the spring from all the seeds they've buried. ;) Wouldn't that be a nice bonus.
Do come by again. I love having you.

How sweet! I've never seen chipmunks in Trinidad, I'll have to keep an eye out!

Susan! Hi!,
Thanks for coming by! Glad you liked the pics and story. I have more to tell and more pics. Only problem is I'm so busy taking pics of all the animals that are showing up almost daily, that I don't have time to blog about it! ;)
My son from out of town, arrives tomorrow so that might delay me a bit too. I promise to get a new post up ASAP. So keep checking back.
